Week 36

Our thanks goes to Aurora's , James's and Katja's mothers for coming to DanceAfrica with us. It was an entertaining show and we had a great time!
We have begun out final Math unit on Two Dimensional Shapes. This unit will help students name shapes using words and attributes and move away from a reliance on pictures and models. Here are some links to help your child learn some of the vocabulary of this unit:
Here are some events to watch out for next week:
·   Schools are closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
·     Please join Mr. Gioia and the Third Graders in the MMR on either Tuesday or Wednesdayfor the play, Nosy Noel and the Missing Mouse. Your child will perform once each day, according to their team. Please ask your child which team they are on.
·     Please join us at K280 (the former Bishop Ford site) for Ms. Gabel’s Music Concert on Thursday. The performance will start at 9:30 am. Ms. Gabel has asked children to wear a white top and black bottom with dark shoes. If you do do not have these items, please have your child dressed in the closest colts you can get (light colored top, dark colored bottom).

·     We will begin to walk over to Prospect Park at 9:25 am for Field Day on Friday. We need two chaperones to help us walk over. Please let me know via note if you are available to walk with us. Please make sure your child is wearing sun protection and has extra sunscreen to reapply. Children should bring a towel to sit on and a water bottle. We have also talked about safety in the park and children have been asked to not bring anything that is of value to them since those items can go missing or be misplaced by the end of the day.
Have a wonderful three day weekend!

Week 33

It was great seeing everyone at the last Family Friday of the year! We especially want to thank Zoe (Rafa's mom) for leading the planting activity.

We have finished the last of our standardized testing this week and I am very proud of the hard work and perseverance the children showed. Test scores will be available to you during the summer.

Here's what happening next week:

  • We are continuing our reading work with Biographies. Students will focus on gathering new words ( character traits) to describe the subject with evidence fro their reading. The class has been fascinated with the lives and accomplishments of some amazing people!
  • In Math, we will work on learning Measurements and creating a reference for units of measurements. It will not be necessary for children to convert units from one to the next but they will be able to make estimates to how long or how heavy an object is.
  • We are diving deeper into Social Studies as we learn more about the biomes of Africa. its landmarks and its inhabitants. This Wednesday, we will need your help with our salt dough maps. Each child has received a letter requesting cardboard and salt dough. Please check your child's folder for it if you have not seen it yet.
Thank you and have a marvelous weekend!
