Week 22

This was a special Family Friday as we gathered together to make an incredible project for the PS 154 Art Auction. Massive thanks to Penny's mom, Jen, for designing and preparing all the pieces of our special globe! The kids worked so carefully to design their "Hello" words on their wedges; it was apparent how proud they were to be a part of this. We are all excited to see the finish product and with the talented Jen taking charge, it will be beautiful! We also want to give thanks to all the parents who showed up and without hesitation, helped distribute materials and support to all children.

Please take some time to check out the two newest shelter videos on our play list to the right!

Here's what to look forward to next week:
  • We are starting a new reading unit on Biographies this week! This extends the work we've done in nonfiction reading to include Nonfiction Narratives. This unit combines the skills learned in fiction (how to read a story) with the skills of nonfiction (looking for main ideas, supporting facts, etc). After a week of immersion in this genre, we will have children break into book clubs, where they will meet with children after reading the same book and use discussion techniques to help them share ideas from their reading. It would be greatly appreciated and very helpful if you would consider donating some of the biography books found on our Amazon Wishlist on the right of this post.
  • In Math, we will start learning about Fractions. This can be a tricky concept for many children as we move away from whole numbers to ratios that show the parts within one whole. Here are some games your child can explore to get a head start.

  • Biobus visit on Monday!
  • We will have Dance class on Thursday. We missed this weeks class due to our teaching artist's illness. That session will be rescheduled for a later day.
Have an excellent weekend! Stay warm!
