Week 19

Please check your child's homework folder weekly. As many of you know, each Friday, there will be a short comment attached to the bottom of your child's homework sheet. This is just a brief comment on your child's week and what he or she is working on in class. After you have read it, please sign the comment so that I know you have seen it. Some parents have also used the space to add compliments or suggestions to their child, which is a great way to support your child's efforts in school. If your child is not giving you the blue folder, please ask for it.

Here's what to expect for next week:

  • Schools are closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King's Day.
  • We have begun a Social Studies unit on China this week. We have learned some basic facts about China in nonfiction reading and are also examining the folktales of the culture. Children were also given an opportunity this week to learn about Chinese writing and now know a couple of words in Cantonese. This upcoming week, we will focus on the geography of China and will look at special landforms and landmarks. To help us, we ask that you contribute some salt dough for our mapmaking activity this week. Your child has a letter with instructions for this in the homework folder.
  • We are going on our first trip this Thursday. Our chaperones will be Tula's mom, Emilio's dad and Nardya's mom.
Have a fantastic three-day weekend!
