Week 36

We've had an amazing week of activities. The music performance already feels like ages ago but we do have a video posted on our video bar of our performance. We followed that with DanceAfrica, which was amazing! The kids enthusiastically endorsed the show during our post show talk. Finally, we were blessed with beautiful weather for our annual Field Day. It's going to be hard to follow this week!

There are no Weekly Comments in the homework folder this week since we were at Field Day. The last set of comments will be put into homework folders next week. It has made a huge difference that you have taken the time to check up on your child's progress and sign the sheet weekly. Thank you for your support!

Here's what to expect next week:

  • Schools are closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
  • In Theater class, Third Graders will work in teams to put on their first show. We will have our show coming soon on June 14th. Your child has been working to learn lines and should have them memorized by now. If not please help your child rehearse.
Have an excellent long weekend!

Week 35

We are fast approaching the final month of school as our third graders prepare to make an important transition into fourth grade. We are still learning and many of the children have been very good about maintaining their great work habits!

Here's what to expect next week:

  • We have a music performance on Tuesday. This is the culmination of our yearlong music program. Here are the details from a letter sent home by Ms. Gabel, our music teacher:

Dear PS 154 3rd, 4th or 5th Grade Families:
It has been a pleasure teaching the 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade music classes this school year. We have learned many fun songs in each class and your children are ready to share their musical accomplishments. I would like to invite you to our upper school music concert.

With Much Appreciation

This has been a wonderful week thanks to all the sweet notes and surprising treats I have received for Teacher Appreciation Week! This is always a lovely event where I get to reflect on how lucky I am to be in this community with such kind families. You have MY  sincerest appreciation for everything you do, not just during this week but throughout the year!

We have another exciting week ahead:
  • We are going to be visited again by the Tiny Scientist Program on Monday! The class had an excellent time on Wednesday as we got to touch a hissing cockroach and build our own planting necklaces. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us next!
  • On Monday, we are also going to meet Rebecca, a teaching artist from Brooklyn Academy of Music. She will be here to teach us about the Zulu dance tradition in preparation for our May 23 trip to DanceAfrica.
  • On Tuesday, we are having a final rehearsal for our music concert. Ms. Gabel would like for all children to have their recorders in their backpacks this week so that we can practice with them on Tuesday. The music concert will take place next Tuesday, the 22nd.
  • The first annual Scientastic Day will take place on Wednesday. This is an all Science day, where children will visit other teachers in our grade to take part in science based activities. We will end the day with the school-wide Egg drop!
  • On Friday, we will have a the Chapter 11 math test. This last unit focused on finding the Area and Perimeter of shapes.
And finally, we want to wish all the special and awesome women in our lives a Happy Mother's Day! Please check out our video message (and simile practice) for our moms on our playlist!
Have a beautiful weekend!
