Week 40: Last Days

It's been a whirlwind year with so much to do and learn but sadly, our time together is over. I have enjoyed watching the children grow and mature. There have also been a few cluster teachers who have remarked on how much this class has grown and how sweet they are. I am very proud of this group!
Here's how our last two school days will go:

  • There will no longer be homework on Monday. Students are responsible for taking home their books and folders. The Math workbook will also go home. There are some pages that are blank because we used different materials to help make the lessons work better. This book could be a good resource for review but you could choose to recycle it.
  • We will finish our Africa unit by making our own version of the Mancala Game.
  • Tuesday will be a half day. We will dismiss in the yard at 11:30. Students will be give a paper copy of their report card. If we don't get a chance to say goodbye at the yard, please know that I wish you all the best moving forward.
Have a beautiful weekend!

Week 39

We are entering our last full week of school and naturally, we will begin the process of sending home school projects and materials. Today, we took home our African Masks, which we love! Check out the pictures below:

This Friday is also the last week I will be adding a comment to the end of your child's homework page. Thank you for your time and attention to monitoring this part of your child's progress.

Here's what to expect for next week:
  • We are heading to the park to spend one final time with our Buddies. On Thursday we will walk over to Vanderbilt Park and have some time to play and relax with our friends in Ms. Ancona's class. We will be there from 9: 30 am to 10:30am.
  • On Friday, we will have an end of year celebration. Please send your child with a small treat/ extra snack as we spend some time playing games, making crafts and chatting with our friends.

Week 38

We are beginning the process of wrapping up our school year and planning our learning for the next year.  In the upcoming weeks, we will begin to bring home unused supplies and our old work. I ask that if your child has library books from the classroom, please remind your child to return them in the next two weeks. To end our year, we will finish our study on Africa, publish our poetry, and work on portfolios for our next teachers. We have also begun to practice cursive writing in class!

Here are some of the happenings for next week:
  • We will have our final Dance Class on Monday! Our instructor was not able to make it this week, but we will meet to reflect on the fun experiences of this enrichment. I am still working on posting the performance on our video link and hopefully, will be successful soon.
  • Schools are closed on Tuesday for students.
  • We will visit the 5th Grade Kids Care Fair at 10:30am. This amazing event has been planned by fifth graders to raise funds for charities. Please send your child with about $5 if you want your child to have snacks or donate to this worthy cause.
  • We will have our first Fathers Day Cookie Sale on Friday. Your child may purchase cookies for the special caretaker at this event. Please provide your child with $5 or more if you would like for your child to contribute to this fundraiser.
Please enjoy these pictures from our trip to the Botanical Gardens. Have a sunny weekend!

Week 37

We have made a change to our homework assignments starting this week. For the remainder of the year, students will not have a reading response for home (on the yellow sheet). That is why your child is not working on the assignment this weekend. You'll notice an overall lessening of homework assignments these past few days but please expect that your child will still receive either a math or reading sheet on Mondays through Thursday.

Here's what's happening next week:

  • We have our final BAX Dance class this week. Please make sure your child is dressed for movement on Monday.
  • Schools will be closed on Thursday for Anniversary Day.
We want to thank Arlo's mom for coming in on Thursday to share a print making activity with us. The kids made print plates of African Masks by layering shapes cut from paper. Check out some of the prints below.

Have a beautiful weekend!
