It was great to see everyone after our Wintery Recess. The math test that was taken before the break has been returned to your child today. Please expect your child's test folder.  If your child did not have their test folder, the test can be found in the homework folder.

Here's what to expect for next week: 

• We have started our Unit 9 in math which involves the comparison and ordering of fraction amounts. Students are reinforcing the concepts of a denominator and a numerator. Please feel free to explore the IXL Math Link on the right side of this blog. There are games under the Comparing Fractions section that will reinforce the fractions work done in class. 
• Please check out our newest math video featuring Aidan and Lulu. The class playlist currently features four videos and you can still watch the previous videos featuring other students. 
• We will have Dance class on Monday. 
• Family Friday will feature an activity for our Gardening Committee. Please respond to Our class parent's email regarding the activity if you can help out. Planting is a fun activity our kids look forward to!

February 13: Happy Mid Winter Recess

How beautiful is our class project! This is an item I am proud to say represents the talents of our class and our families.

We are heading into the Mid Winter Recess with an optional homework packet. Please feel free to use it if you wish. It is not mandatory and does not have to be returned. It offers activities that can help your child review learning done in class so that there is no lag when we return. In addition, you could also have your child play math games on this site and enjoy any of the Chinese New Year celebrations around the city if you'd like to help your child explore topics taught in class.

Please keep an eye out this weekend as we debut a short film made by two of our students, Amalia and William. UPDATE: The Math short is up and you can view it next to this post! Please enjoy!

When we return from the break, we will have Dance class on Monday. Please remember to have your daughter not wear tights.

The Family Friday project was such a great activity! The kids worked intently and carefully to make beautiful replicas of cultural costumes. We must thank Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Deeble-Jackson for putting this activity together! If you have not sent in the five dollars for the craft materials Mrs. Harris purchased, please do so by next week. Thank you!

Here's what to expect for next week:

• There will be Dance on Monday and Wednesday. Please have your child dressed for movement on these days. 
• We will begin Biography Book Clubs this week. The children have done excellent work with their groups, talking about Mystery stories and using text evidence to support their theories. Keeping the same routines, we will shift our reading to Biographies. As we study extraordinary individuals, we will look at major events in a person's life and the effects it created. We will examine the person's character traits and the significance of the individual's achievements as we look for themes in the biography.
• The Unit 8 math test will be given on Thursday. The Mid Chapter Checkpoint was given out today. Please take some time to review it with your child and try some of the math games using the IXL link found on the bottom right.
